It will need to be there when you get asked for secondaries, which will be around the end of June to early July (if you are sending your primary in at the beginning of June).

Well so I dont know about this year, with AACOMAS having their own letter service and all. But at least last cycle it literally was not even a part of your primary. As in like, you submit your primary, they review your primary, and then offer you a secondary and ask to submit your letters when you send the secondary back to them. So personally, I dont think it will effect you getting a secondary at all. What usually goes into whether you get a secondary is simply yor MCAT and GPA and not much else - its really just a very basic pre-screen. Now not having a DO letter when you submit your secondary might hurt you, since once they get all of the required stuff they will begin to actually take a harder look at your app and that is when decisions will be made on whether they want to invite you for an interview or not.
