Shadowing 3 dentists?

Is it true that Indiana requires you to shadow 3 dentists?

DDS Prerequisites for Indiana University School of Dentistry

"The Admissions Committee expects all applicants to have completed a minimum of 100 hours of exposure to dentistry through shadowing in dental offices. It is strongly recommended that applicants shadow in at least two or three general dental practice settings. Note that shadowing in specialty offices, public health clinics, and so on also counts toward the 100 hour minimum."

This is what is stated on AADSAS under program materials,

• Complete a minimum of 100 hours of shadowing in at least three (3) private general practice dentistry environments

I mean, its hard enough to get 1 dentists sometimes especially when you want to build your relationship with them for a great, solid letter. I dont have 3 dentists but I shadowed for a total of about 300 hours, and over 300 hours of assisting. I think that should suffice of not having three. People have gotten in with much less.

Im not saying you can't get 3 dentists, but it takes time to find three dentists, and some worry so much about HIPAA that they reuse anyone to shadow, as one dentist told me. I left thinking like...what if I was an employee. Say difference. just one gets paid and the other not.

Just a reminder. You will probably never have all the requirements for each and every dental school. Just build a solid app and show yourself off. If they don't like you, oh well. it's the art of this 'game'. Get in somewhere else. Good luck to you

Yeah I figured with the number of posts complaining about shadowing hours and the anecdotes I've heard from my friends ... there aren't many people that are actually going to have shadowed 3 dentists.
