I have been shadowing two different dentists in the field. But how much is necessary to make an impact on my application. 30 hours, 60 hours 100 hours? Does shadowing a lot more change my application that much? How do they even know how much I shadow? should i be writing the numbers down?

Thanks homies

theres a question on the aadsas application thats asks how many hours of clinical experiance/volunteering or shadowing you have...i think 40 hours is the minimum needed but each school has their own preferences, so best thing would be to check the websites of the schools you are applying to. 😎

Ohio State has a minimum of 20 hours of shadowing required. I did well over 200 hours.

so they lump all shadowing/volunteer amount into one number?

Do i need to show proof of shadowing/volunteering?

I know that each school has a different number of hours that they want you to have. UMKC's app wanted around 100 hours and asked what you observed, what you learned, etc. I think it would be beneficial for you to keep some sort of a record or journal of things that you have seen, what you liked, etc. I wouldn't necessarily take a pad of paper with me every time I shadowed, but it would be a good idea to keep it all written down. Also when it comes time for LORs, you can tell the person you've asked to write it all the hours you've done. 🙂
