Hey guys,
A friend of mine was nice enough to set me up shadowing with some docs in the emergency room. My questions are:

What should I wear, lab coat+tie/shirt or scrubs?

What do you hate for me to do?

How can I help you guys out and not be in the way at the same time?
(like get coffee, etc)

Is it rude for me to bring lunch/cookies for the ER Docs only and not have enough for the nurses?

Anything major I should avoid doing?

1. Wear shirt and tie. No lab coat.

2. "Hate" ? Nah, nothing much.

3. Don't ask too many questions. Don't ask the patients anything.

4. Don't bring lunch or cookies for anyone. Bring lunch for yourself only.

5. If it's colored blue (towels, drapes, etc.), then stay three feet away from it at all times. Its sterile.

Everything noted!

I was told everyone wears scrubs, will I stick out like a soar thumb wearing tie+shirt?
Or am I fundamentally wrong and tie is fine?

You won't stick out, per se. You'll look like a medical student (which in a way, you are... albeit *very* early on).

Not everyone wears scrubs; I don't - cargoes & a button down usually.

Cheers!

One other thing... stay away from psych patients if you're in a tie. Those don't mix well. d=)

Over the years I've gone from the ER mullet to dress shirt and slacks, but I still resist the tie for that reason.

ER mullet = khakis + scrub top?

Either way, I just laughed my ass off for a good three minutes--quite a few EPs I know rock that look.
