Is it me or is it really difficult to obtain shadowing opportunity with a DO physician in Southern California? Contact over 15 clinic and every one of them claimed they do not offer shadowing opportunity. I had a much easier time gaining shadowing opportunity from MD physicians, anyone have any other way to gain DO shadowing opportunity other than calling them? I was thinking of showing up at their clinic and ask but it seem too intrusive.

Yeah showing up would be very intrusive and cold calling has a low percentage for success. I was able to do it through friends, school, contacts. I dont know how far along you are in this bit but you can try volunteering and telling the people you volunteer with that you are looking to shadow if they know anyone.

No, it's difficult. You could try the OPSC site and see who's signed up to be a mentor. Chances are much higher with those folks because they have actively signed up and indicated their willingness to mentor.

You can be creative and find one that your insurance covers, visit for a routine exam, and while there you can express your interest in the field and see where the conversation goes from there.

Thank you, I did made an attempt to search for shadowing opportunity on the OPSC site and come up with nothing.

Haha that was my first attempt of gaining shadowing opportunity but the doctor stated there was a risk of HIPPA violation which she isn't willing to take.

I just don't understand why the highly required letter from a DO if the differences between MD and DO is an OMT course.

Most will ask that you sign confidentiality/HIPAA forms. You could mention that you’d be willing to sign any if it comes up.

Also, are you currently volunteering at a hospital? Many have observation programs and the volunteer coordinate can help make introductions, set up shadowing, etc.
