Hey everyone, I was wondering how my chances are exactly with shadowing experience being somewhat lacking. I shadowed for a whole summer over a year ago (around 10 hours a week), but havent shadowed since. So i was wondering if I should set up some shadowing jobs for the next several weeks before finishing my application? Or should I just go ahead and finish the application now and not worry about the lack of shadowing this past year? Also is applying by the end of August or September considered late?

Any suggestions or input would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Here's a quick overview of what my application is looking like:

- GPA: 3.79
- OATs:
QR: 350
RC: 330
Bio: 360
GC: 340
OC: 350
PHYS: 350
TS: 360
AA: 350
- Letters of Rec from: Current employer, professor, and an optometrist.
- Currently working on the essays.

Hey,

I think that you should still definitely go ahead with your application. 10 hrs/week is A LOT of shadowing - probably a lot more than most people have - even if it was last summer. If I were you, however, i would try and find another optometrist to shadow really quickly and put that in my application before i sent it. I have heard that optom schools like to see that applicants have shadowed more than one optometrist in different settings. Your GPA and OAT scores look very competitive though so i think you will be okay! Hope this helps!

Thanks so very much! I actually shadowed at 3 different offices that summer (all privately owned), so I might try a more commercial place for the rest of August, and get everything turned in by the beginning of September.
