Hello guys,

So as an undergrad I took a medical shadowing course and I have about 100hrs of optometry shadowing experience. The "problem" is its all with one optometrist in private practice. I didn't really know it was recommended to shadow in different settings. I just finished my personal statement and im ready to send out my application but I kind of want to shadow in a commercial setting now since it would "look better" to have both experiences. At this stage in the cycle do you think it would be worth it to shadow another OD? Also I'll more than likely re-take my OAT in january since my scores from earlier this month aren't all that. Should I just send my app out as it is now?

The earlier your app is in, the better. I think you should send it out ASAP. I guess you could schedule the OAT for Jan and ideally, before then you will have interview requests to deal with, so ideally, you can cancel if you need to. ;^) If not, then you're prepared! Your shadow experiences will be gauged at the interview too, so getting shadow time in a different setting would be prudent. It definitely can't hurt. Good luck!
