do dental schools have a minimum requirement for shadowing hours? I've read some posts where people have said some schools require atleast 50 hours. My question is... I have 45 hours of shadowing. Do schools just want to see that you have a general idea of what a dentist's daily work life is like... whether its 25 hours or 200 hours? Or do some schools have a definite number that they want you to have?

Tufts has a minimum of 30 hours, from the same dentist. The shadowing is more for a personal benefit, making sure dentistry is right for you. Make sure your dentist includes the hours and dates shadowed in the LOE.

hmm... I'm not sure if he did that b/c i never told him too. I never knew we were supposed to submit a log sheet.

what should i do if i've already turned in his letter and my app?

If the school wants a letter stating your shadowing hours satisfied, your dentist will have to send a verifying later. A few acceptances wanted a letter to confirm shadowing (I didn't have to submit this since my LOE stated).

They will not ask your dentist to send them a letter verifying the number of hours you've completed. You should be fine. They just want to know you have some exposure to the field, so you know what you're getting yourself into. There are much more important aspects of your application you need to focus on, rather than worrying about your shadowing hours.
