Hello all, and congratulations on your accomplishments!

I am currently an applicant to a couple of DO schools, and I am I need of shadowing experience ASAP. Any of you kind people who can help, recommend someone who is willing to help, or at least advise me on how to proceed, Please PM me, I will be very grateful.

I tried calling a few DOs in my area, non returned my calls, however 🙄 .

Southern California.

Thanks and good luck.

You can call your local hospital or health network and ask them about any programs they have for shadowing doctors. I did a program one summer at a hospital in my area where I shadowed a doc. I shadowed a doctor where I go to school as well, and a completely different hospital allowed me to do pretty much the same thing. I would contact local hospitals in your area and ask them what sorts of options they have for students to shadow doctors, and specifically ask for a DO. The only reason I got to shadow a DO at his office was because it was through a mutual acquaintance, otherwise I found no luck contacting them personally. Good luck!

ok,

if you have the numbers for those local DOs, then you probably have their addresses (office, not home!). Go there in person and ask the receptionist if you can talk to the doc about coming and observing/shadowing. Say that your applying etc. This worked just fine for me. Luck!

I went to the doctor today with my mom and I was reading my anatomy book while waiting for the doctor. When he walked in he asked if I was studying the human body and I told him I want to be a doctor. He then told me to come to his office on fridays to follow him around. Is this considered shadowing?

That is absolutely what shadowing is.

If there is a DO school in your area, call the clinic that is affiliated with the school, some of the docs there should definitely be willing to let you shadow them.
good luck.

Shadowing is not an absolute requirement but very, very helpful.
Perhaps you should choose a D.O. as your physician and make an appointment for a checkup, or some "problem" you can think of for him to look at. While you are there explain what you need and ask if he or another D.O. he might know would be willing. They know what shadowing is and even if he doesn't want to he'll know other docs. Just an idea.
