1. Is there an official way to record my shadowing/volunteering hours or should I just keep my own log?

2. Planning out my schedule for the upcoming school year- need some advice as to whether I should regularly shadow during the school year (perhaps one day/week could be dedicated to a couple hours of shadowing) or use my school breaks to shadow? (our winter break is about a month long, summer is ~3 months, etc) I will probably be volunteering regularly at dental clinics during the school year + doing other ECs.

Thank you!

1. Keep your own log of approximate dates and hours.

2. Up to you, doesn't really matter, the total hours is what counts, aim for 100+.

Definitely keep your own log. Also, if you get a rec from a dentist you shadow, some schools require that the letter mention how many hours you shadowed, as a way of them 'signing off' on it. This happened to me with one school, can't remember which, but my dentist forgot to state it in his rec. Luckily when I stopped shadowing, I had him sign off on a statement of how many hours I shadowed just in case, so I was able to send them that instead.

I do know that Tufts requires such a letter from a dentist.

any other schools require dentist mention number of hours??? other than Tufts???

Thank you all so much for the help! I really appreciate it. 🙂

For Tufts, if you have shadowed several dentists, do they want a letter from each one?
