Greetings,

I'm a Sophomore at the University of North Florida who's back home in Tampa for the summer. I'm a Psychology major/Health minor and am very interested in the subject. I definitely am interested in health-care, and making a difference in others lives. I understand that I cannot observe therapists and their clients due to confidentiality reasons but I would like to get a "feel" as to what area of Psychology I would like to go into and if becoming a Psychologist is what I really want to do. Otherwise, I really don't have a clue as to what I want to do after my undergrad....DEFINITELY plan on attending grad school but I don't know if I want to become an audiologist or go into psychology and get a Psy.D or just my Masters.

I have one quick question.....If audiology interests me can I also get a masters in mental health counseling and eventually open a practice that focuses on hearing yet counseling those that are deaf/hard of hearing etc?

Thanks for any feedback!

You can volunteer for a crisis call center, or crisis shelter. You could also work with special needs populations during the summer.

If your interest is in counseling people with hearing impairments, it would make more sense to have just a basic knowledge of ear physiology and hearing impairments and hearing accommodations (as opposed to being trained as an audiologist) and to focus on learning ASL and counseling.
