So I heard of pretty dark side of one of my MS4 classmates. I am on an away rotation with some great students from far-flung medical schools who started their month 1 week before I did. One of my classmates was on this away rotation 3 weeks before I arrived, and so he/she met these other rotators. This classmate was telling the other rotators that he/she is the top candidate from our school, and that this is coming from the head of the department.

You know, lets be honest: he/she very well might be the top candidate. And, some crazy staffer might have actually said such a thing. BUT REALLY: Would you ever say that?? To complete strangers? Who already think you might me a little crazy? Not the way to make friends, for sure.

Has anyone else run into this?

😕

I can't tell if my lack of comprehension is a result of the above being poorly written or my being post-call?

SOrry ...feeling like the ugly duckling of my med-school. A classmate and I are doing an away rotation in the same location. She is telling the other rotators that she has been told she is the top candidate from our program.

There's a classmate of mine that would say something like that about themselves...

lol. just wait till you go on your interviews and attendings will ask you on interview day, "what makes you better than other applicants applying from your school"

i've seen much shadier things than that. its annoying, yeah, but it'll get worse. trust me. but just make sure to post about it cuz i wanna hear about it. :meanie:

yeah, well, i like to think that behavior like this will not get you far but unfortunately sometimes the exact opposite is true.

Ahh, now I understand. I wouldn't worry, behavior like that is detrimental. I'm not really sure what she thinks she stands to gain by announcing that.

Don't worry about it. Your classmate is digging him/herself a hole.

I've seen much shadier things happen...things where people actually get their careers ruined over rumors. 🙁

Thanks you guys, I guess I just need to be ready to sell myself when the time comes. Good luck to all!
