Share your personal statements here if would like. It can be helpful to other pre-dents. I am not sure if it is going to be a good idea for people who haven't applied yet to share their PS. But, it's up to you guys.

I am going to dental school this fall. But, I am not sure if people matriculating or not, would feel comfortable disclosing personal/identifiable details about sensitive things and aspects of their life, good or bad. If people do that's great but personally, that's just my opinion about the thread you made.

However, if you feel you need assistance on the structure and/or any other aspect of your personal statement, please do not hesitate to PM me. I would definitely not mind giving you some insight/suggestions on improving it 🙂

i wish people would too...but its journey many of us face alone really. people who completed it dont want to share. and people currently writing are hesitant because they might get pulled to side because somebody applied with a similar personal statement..... if only the world was more ethical

We completed our journeys, yes. But, I don't think you should mistake us, not putting personal/ sensitive/ identifiable details of us out in public, with not wanting to share.

Are you saying you want to share but cant?... Is it not for the reasons you suggested people don't want to share?

There is a high risk that someone might reference or even copy other people's ideas into their own PS. Also, as @RS2224 already mentioned, I doubt that people would feel comfortable disclosing very sensitive and personal details of their life on some random internet.

@NavyDDS1990 and @RS2224 have pretty much said this but a personal statement is just that... personal. Sure, it would be helpful if we all just posted our statements out there... heck, I will admit I even searched when I was getting ready to apply. But being on the other side of this process now, my personal statement is priceless, unique, and personal to my story. Yours should be too! I wrote, rewrote, let my professors and mentors rip it apart, and rewrote it again for 6 months. There are items in there that I worked very hard to craft and the thought of someone using it or skewing it after everything...nope. Moreover, when that question comes up in your interview of why you want to be a dentist, you can truthfully reflect upon and speak to your personal statement of why.

Its a tedious process and one of the most difficult aspects of the application (in my opinion) because I'm sure you can tell me why you want to be a dentist if we were just having a conversation but to "articulate" it in writing is much more difficult. My advice to you is start early writing it, let everyone who you trust read it, and do not settle for one you know is not perfect and doesn't speak to who you are and why you are here. It seems so far away now but I promise, you'll know it when you get there. Tell your story. It doesn't have to be mystical and grandiose with hyperbole to make their eyes water... just tell them how you ended up here, why you want to be a dentist, why you know you'll make a great dentist, how you know you will succeed in dental school, and what you've learned along the way that will serve you well in your future serving in dentistry.

Ok, soap box over... go forth and write a bad @$$ personal statement! Also, I am willing to help or edit/suggest if you need an extra set of eyes!

Terrible idea sorry. You really don't know who's on the other side of the screen.
