@NavyDDS1990 and
@RS2224 have pretty much said this but a
personal statement is just that...
personal. Sure, it would be helpful if we all just posted our statements out there... heck, I will admit I even searched when I was getting ready to apply. But being on the other side of this process now, my personal statement is priceless, unique, and personal to my story. Yours should be too! I wrote, rewrote, let my professors and mentors rip it apart, and rewrote it again for 6 months. There are items in there that I worked very hard to craft and the thought of someone using it or skewing it after everything...nope. Moreover, when that question comes up in your interview of why you want to be a dentist, you can truthfully reflect upon and speak to your personal statement of why.
Its a tedious process and one of the most difficult aspects of the application (in my opinion) because I'm sure you can tell me why you want to be a dentist if we were just having a conversation but to "articulate" it in writing is much more difficult. My advice to you is
start early writing it, let everyone who you
trust read it, and
do not settle for one you know is not perfect and speaks to who you are and why you are here. It seems so far away now but I promise, you'll know it when you get there. Tell
your story. It doesn't have to be mystical and grandiose with hyperbole to make their eyes water... just tell them how you ended up here, why you want to be a dentist, why you know you'll make a great dentist, how you know you will succeed in dental school, and what you've learned along the way that will serve you well in your future serving in dentistry.
Ok, soap box over... go forth and write a bad @$$ personal statement! Also, I will willing help edit/suggest if you need an extra set of eyes!
