When you don't see the sun in over a month.

To be honest, when I was in graduate school, not only was I completely nocturnal for a while (woke up around 4 pm), I did not leave my house because I was doing research for over a month. I really did not see the sun.

I don't understand the pathological need to "have a weekend"

I could care less which days I have off. I just prefer to have them off together. The thing that sucks about having atypical days off is that it makes it hard to hang out with friends who have "normal" days off. I've recently switched from working every single Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night to M-F days and I've had more of a social life in the last couple of months than the previous two years total. It makes a difference and I tend to be someone who likes more quiet and alone time than the average person.

LOL, thank you for posting it!

Being a non-trad this doesn't make much sense to me either. Most of my friends are all married and have children. They are so busy with their families the concept of "hanging out" just doesn't exist anymore. Social Life? The traditional meaning of that concept ended for me about 5 years ago /shrug.

Well, most of my friends are married with children and busy jobs and still like to enjoy time away from those responsibilities every once in awhile. Hanging out to us means the occasional bike ride, watching to a movie, or catching dinner every once in awhile. My best friend has 3 kids and when I'm back in my hometown visiting , she always wants to hang out because according to her sometimes its nice to have conversations with other adults (besides her husband).

But anyway, we're getting off topic with the thread, which is supposed to be humorous.

I may not be the most non-trad of non-trads (only graduated college 2 years ago and now applying for med at 24) but working night shifts certainly made for some funny times. Like stopping on my way home to wake a friend up and have a beer while he started the day with a coffee. Those were pretty one-sided conversations usually...
