Hi all,

So, I'm still finalizing my decision to go into Neuro. I just finished my first Neuro rotation and loved it, the only problem is I'm getting married and my fiancee work will not let him move outside of California (we can probably move to Manhattan as well) Anyway, I'm not a stellar student- i'm an osteopathic student with average grades and 1SD below the mean on Step1 Im trying to take step 2 now to try to improve my application and I do well on my clinical rotations. I'm told by residents and attendings that I will be a good match for Neuro and that I am a hard worker and fast learner, but I'm curious to know if I will be able to match in either california or new york. Any advice??

I'm confused. the title of the post is "shift work in neuro"..if you were wondering if shift work is possible in neuro, yes, look up neuro-hospitalists. It seems to be an upward trend. And one I'm interested in, actually.

Neuro is still pretty damn uncompetitive, so don't worry. Now, I do have to admit, there seems to be some bias against DO's on the west side of the country, this could hurt, but as far as NYC, wide open, go for it.

Thanks for the advice. I do feel that it will be easier for me to match in NY which is great since I always wanted to live there for a couple of years. But, I'm not familiar with the hospitals in NY at all. Are there certain hospitals that are more D.O friendly?? Are there some that will not accept D.O's? Any advice on NY Neuro residency programs will be appreciated.

Also, sorry for my previous title: shift work in Neuro. My post was supposed to be asking about the possibilities of shift work as a Neurologist but instead I got distracted with the worries of not matching 🙂

Take care all, and I want to thank everybody on the forum for their great advice and support!
