This is the only area students generally don't rotate through during the core rotation and I think one chapter in Blueprints is devoted to urogynecological problems. 😉

What's a good way to do well on the rotation and shine? I know it's surgical so all those things apply, but any specific advice for Urogyn?

👍

read a handy geriatric medicine text and learn all about dripping urine. great fun....

First I would ask your mentor what book they used and copy some pages then discuss those of interest. Ask if you can discuss a topic each week. With each topic go to www.pubmed.org and find a recent article. Ask your mentor what is their oppinion.

Know the patients before surgery round early stay late

Thanks for the suggestions! I did surgery early in med 3. Although I worked hard, I didn't know my patients. As the year went on, I learned what that meant.

i just did a urogyn sub-I. i had specific reading assignments from the walters and karram urogyn book, but i'll tell you what really helped- i memorized chapter 3 in telinde's operative gynecology because i mostly got pimped on anatomy. if you pick up walters and karram, most of the chapters are pretty well written and easy to read quickly- i think chapter 6 or 7 had some of the basic stuff that is good to read before the rotation begins, if you can.

hope that helps.

Thanks Wug! I will check out Telinde's. I'm also going to focus on general surgical stuff (wound care, abx, post-op care, etc) since that's what this rotation essentially is.
