Okay I'm applying in 2006 for the 2007 year. I won't take the MCAT until August of 06. Am I really going to hurt myself in submitting my application once those scores come in? I hear yea's and nay's on this so can anyone set me straight please?

It is certainly a disadvantage but many, many people get in every year with the August MCAT. Especially if you are competitive, you will be fine. If you are about average you may get later interviews which will be for waitlists, and then go on to get off them in the springtime.

My April MCAT was low, and the 3 of the 5 schools I was interviewed at didn't contact me until the August MCAT.

You do however need to submit your application early, as they will review them prior to receipt of the scores.

My adviser is suggesting I do this same thing, and I won't even have Physics II or Org. II taken by then, but he's convinced I can matriculate in Aug. of '07 if I can do well on that Aug. '06 MCAT. I'm not all that convinced, as my original plan was to try for '08 and have ALL my pre-reqs taken prior to applying..

It won't hurt to take the MCAT that extra time. Mine raised just by virtue of taking it again, with no additional preparation.

Can't answer for the OP, but my reason/recommendation from my prof. is because I should try to have at least Chem. II, a class of Organic, and maybe BioChem before taking it....(but mostly Organic)...and I can't get that in by then.

Why aren't you taking it in April '06?

I second this question. You are putting yourself at a great disadvantage by not allowing yourself room for improvement. (i.e. a poor April MCAT score gives you another chance in August.)

I took the August MCAT. Accepted to top 2 choices (and both before Christmas).

I didn't even turn in my application till December; meaning it wasnt' complete till late January early Feb and I got an acceptance.

Not recommended. Not to mention the stress you were under to get a spot.

My application was not complete until Feb. 17th, and I was accepted without being placed on a waiting list, so submitting your application late is not the end of the world. That being said, I also would advise strongly to send all materials necessary except your scores as early as possible so that your application is complete as soon as they recieve your scores. By applying late, there were only 3 spots left at the school I applied to...I was lucky enough to make it, but I was sweatin' bullets.
