I'm a product design student who's making a tool cradle for dentist tools.

I'm doing research on what kinds of handtools are used by dentists, how and in what order they use them, what's the most convenient angle to pick them up from, etc.

What have some of your experiences been with handtools? Is there a certain way you wish you could arange your tools for the best access?

You are getting off on the wrong foot with the dental community if you refer to the very valuable instruments we use in our profession as tools.

I'm sorry, I know close to nothing about dentistry, let alone the language used to describe its practice. I was hoping its practitioners could help me rectify that.

I think you will find that there is a great variety of personal preferences in this... There is not likely to be a "best" order or best angle to pick them up. This is up to the preference of the practitioner. Also, new dentists will likely be more open to new and innovative designs, while older established dentists will tend to prefer their standard tools that they have used and become comfortable with over the years.

As for the terminology, don't fret too much about that haha 👍

What kind of tool cradle do you mean? Like an instrument tray or something?

My favorite is large table directly over patient with roller legs on each side so it has no sag to it. I don't like to have to reach behind the patient for every instrument
