I am looking into doing an away elective this coming academic year, and I have just found out that I will likely have to pay for my own malpractice insurance for the 1 month period that I do so in. Short of a google search online, I have no idea how to shop for malpractice insurance to see how feasible this is financially speaking. Does anybody have experience with this that you care to share? I am considering California (northern) or Illinois (Chicago) as locations for an away elective.
thanks.

same question- pursuing PGY3 away elective in another state-
obtaining 3 weeks of malpractice... how?

I have found nothing in all this time. Please let me know if you do.

I ran into this same exact problem several months ago. I looked for many hours because this was a place I really wanted to see first hand (mostly to verify or refute the malignant reputation). I found that unless the school offers the insurance to you, it is very hard to find medical student insurance. I never found med student insurance for 1 month. I believe I found 1 place where you could get insurance for an entire year (about $2000). It wasn't worth it to me so I just did my rotation elsewhere.

Years ago, when I did an away in residency, there was a whole lot of ppw between GME offices. I seem to remember that one of the documents was a waiver of sorts, where the institution that I was going to agreed to take me on in terms of medmal. This scenario could be unique to my residency/institution.
