What shorthand symbols and abbreviations do you guys commonly use for note-taking, and I"m not talking about ones that are so esoteric that you're the only one that could possibly understand? i'm talking along the lines of 'p' for pain.

prpa - as needed for pain
po - oral
p - teaspoon actually
c/t qd-bidprpa
"(capulse)/(tablet) qd-bid as needed for pain"

Stuff like that. I Basically write it down just as a script might be written down (or as I would put them in the computer at work). I really didn't realize I was doing it until I looked back at my notes one morning. It makes things easier for me in pharmacology.

d@mmitt help me out here guys!!!

Note taking short-hand

DNTK- Don't Need to Know
m. - muscle(s)
n. nerve(s)
g.- gland(s)
enz. -enzyme
muc. -mucous
SR-Sarcoplasmic Reticulum
f.-fiber(s)
dx-diagnosis
sx-symptom(s)
tx-therapy

what are some others? c'mon?!?!!?!?!

the only one that really stuck out in my head besides all the normal ones was one that our physio prof told us..

g = permeability

but i noticed you use g for glands, so that won't really work for you.

i'll just shortcut a word like symp for sympathetic system or pregang/postgang for pre/postganglion neuron or something.. nothing extraordinary. i'll remember what it means because of the area that we're working on.

it might take you longer to remember the shortcuts everyone else uses than to actually use/make up your own!!

When I take notes, I don't write down the vowels.

For example, in my notes the last sentence would look like this:

Whn I tk nts, I dn't wrt dwn th vwls.

For some reason it does save time and I can still read my handwriting later. Also, if it's a word that I can't decipher its shorthand it causes me to pause a moment to think about what the word might be. That helps me with retention.

Tht's fckn nts!!!! That's like crazy hebrew. Couldn't do it.
