Quick question. I took Micro and A&P and got a B. Now I know people say don't take classes over with a B and normally I agree. Theses classes were
5 years ago and will be 7-8 when i matriculate to med school. I would like to take them over just to refresh my knowledge. My sci grades have been good so far, A's in Bio 1,Chem 1&2, and nutrition, and a B+ in Bio II. So, the question is, do I take them over, to up my knowledge, or just keep the grades and just study up before MCAT.?

I would say spend you time focusing on the MCAT. I wouldn't retake a B or B+. You could spend your time and money much better elsewhere.

I definitely would not worry about your grades.. B's are perfectly acceptable. I earned B's in Gen Chem 1 and 2, Bio 2 and a B+ in Bio 1, and I haven't had any problems getting interviews.

I agree. You should concentrate on the MCAT.

BTW--Great Signature

NEVER EVER EVER RETAKE A B.

THAT IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME.

Retake C's or below ONLY if it kills your GPA.

If you retake every B you make, then you will be in school forever, waste lots of money, and baffle admissions committees as to your rationale.

What if the classes were taken over 10 years ago and the knowledge was never applied or used since then?

I'd only re-take if the schools aren't going to accept the credits anyways due to the age of the grades (this depends on the school, but some have a time cutoff for grades).

i agree, only retake C's or below. it is pointless, a waste of time, extremely boring, and a waste of money. concentrate on the mcat, def! A 'B' is really good in those classes!!

9 years ago, I had one full year of 400 level physiology. I just recently took another 400 level physio course, but not because of the grade. Rather, I felt it would be a great course to brush up on for med school. So, there is that consideration as well.

It all depends on your time frame. If you'll be busy taking pre-req's, I would not retake anything in lieu of what you need to prioritize. However, if you have room or time, you may wish to consider another physio as it is such a great class, and one that should help in med school.

Then again, so would genetics, micro, anatamy....

I would absolutely NOT retake your B's.
If you are worried about refreshing on the knowledge I would suggest taking classes that build on it. Like Histology, Pathophysiology, Cell Biology, etc. They'll most likely review or tie in a lot of those same concepts. Plus you'll be adding onto that old and long forgotten knowledge. I bet it will come back to you easier than you thought anyway.
