I am planning on giving an additional recommendation letter writer a bunch of addressed envelopes to make life easier for him. I had originally put my name and AMCAS ID on the outside of each envelope to make the process go smoother once the letters are received at the various admissions offices. Is it not a good idea to have my name and AMCAS ID in plain sight on the exterior of the envelope? Should I grab a permanent marker or leave it alone?

Having your AAMC ID on the outside of the envelope is a bad idea. Have your letter writer put it in the letter itself, or use an app service like VirtualEvals or Interfolio.

Envelopes are discarded. If you want, your letter writers can add your amcas ID in the body or header of their letters. Better yet, on a school cover sheet if they have one. It doesn't help to have it on the envelope.

Treat your AMCAS ID like your social security number - you wouldn't put that on the outside of the envelope, would you? Protect it!

Yes, some roguish fiend will call all your schools and withdraw you 🙄 Your AAMC ID is nowhere near as valuable or important as your SSN.

for some reason, I don't think its that important of an ID. I wouldn't really worry about it too much. Its certainly not a SS#, and 99% of people would have no clue what it is, the others, they are going to be pre-med or med students. Then you have the probability that said envelope that is thrown out is seen again, etc etc. Don't worry about such a small thing
