Thanks for your help with this issue. I have one advisor through my university telling me to check the disadvantaged box and another telling me I don't qualify so I wanted to double check.

I grew up in an affluent suburb and attended a good public school and had many educational opportunities. However, when I was in elementary school my parents divorced and in high school, my self-employed father lost his main client. This meant that when I stayed with him (half the week, every week) there often was not enough or consistent food in the fridge or the heat couldn't be turned on in cold Wisconsin winters. I do feel like I learned about determination and decision making from this experience as well as gaining first-hand experience into the way many people struggle to live. However, the other half the week I stayed with my mom, and while she was by no means rich, there was always sufficient heat and food.

For additional context, I was awarded a full-tuition scholarship at my university that was based both on financial need and academics with only a small percentage of the total university population being selected.

I don't want to be any way dishonest on my application and since I'm receiving conflicting answers from my in-person advisors I would appreciate any clarity that could be added to the decision.

Thanks!

You were not disadvantaged. The disadvantage box is not for who had the most terrible life.
