I am pre-med at a state college. I just needed some advice as when to apply to Medical school. This coming year (2006) I will be done with most my major, and most my Med school pre Reqs. I will have over 100 semester credits. However, I will be shy both my O'chem classes. I will be completed with them before any matriculation, but I was wondering if I should apply this coming year even shy two classes, or should I wait till the next year? Also, how hard will it hit me on my MCAT's. If anyone can help please fill me in. Thanks

O chem is one of the major classes for your application. You should try to fit them in before you apply IMO. As for the MCATs, it wont hit too hard, since O chem is only supposed to be 35% of the bio section (i only got 1 psg of o chem on the aug exam) but it varies. I would still say take o chem 1 and 2 before u apply and before your mcats.

I would try to fit ochem in before you take the MCAT, at least semester 1. It will really probably almost double your MCAT prep time trying to teach yourself an entire subject. Even though ochem is reputed to be little and easy on the MCAT, you never know what your form is gonna be like, and it could have alot and crush you. I would try to fit in ochem..Scrap one of the other classes you have planned.

And yes, you should apply DO! I love the idea, love some of the DO schools I applied to more than half+ of the MD schools...Besides that, check my link...Without applying DO I would be a sad duck right now but instead I'm sooo psyched about early upcoming interviews 🙂
