SHould I apply for FAP? I am eligible for it and it would really help things out but is it going to be looked down upon by med schools?? Like you know some colleges admit people they think can pay the full fees instead of others...

You know what's fun? Even if you qualify as an independent student and get no financial help from your parents, you have to put their financial information down, and they count it towards your eligibility.

This happened to me a few hours ago; I got denied because of it. I'm quite pissed.

you should really look up the word FAP on urban dictionary.

Just sayin'

There's no way that it'd be looked down upon. I think the opposite would occur (succeeding while being part of a low economic class would be more impressive than just succeeding).

You're correct that many undergraduate colleges are NOT need-blind in their admissions. That means that if they see you can't pay, you can't get in.

However for medical school, you don't apply for financial aid until after you're accepted. FAP has no bearing on your application; most schools specifically state that they do NOT look at your financial circumstances until after they have made a decision about whether or not to accept you.

Everything associated with the application (esp. traveling!) is already expensive enough--I would definitely apply for FAP to help alleviate the cost. Good luck!

Apply for it, nobody will look down on you. If you need it, take advantage of it. Note, I said NEED not want.

I applied, got it and saved several hundred dollars. It makes rejections less painful.

They WILL look down on you if you put that you are disadvantaged on your AMCAS app and, come interview time (or even before if you haven't justified it well), they'll see who you really are if you've lied.
