Hi guys, I'm a premed and I graduated in 2019 from a university in Illinois with a BS in Biology. I've been preparing for the MCAT and I'll be taking it in April hopefully. My plan was to apply for medical schools this year so I can start in Fall 2021. The thing is I don't know if I'm ready to apply anymore. I just feel like I don't have alot of extracurricular activities. I started working as an EMT-B in September 2019 and I started participating in a clinical research in October 2019. I also volunteered 130 hours in a hospital the summer before. I didn't have alot activities when I was in college tho. I was part of Doctors Without boarders chapter where we did nothing. I also volunteered for 3 months in helping special needs people and that's pretty much it. My GPA is 3.8 and my science GPA is 3.7. Do you guys think that's enough for a medical school application?

Another thing (which is more important) is that I don't have a green card to begin with, so I'll be applying as an international student. I know there are few schools that accept international students and most of them are so competitive to get in. I've heard some negative things about being a re-applicant in case I don't get accepted this year. like if I apply this year and get rejected, it would lower my chances in getting accepted in the following year because of being a re-applicant regardless of the reason.

Do you guys think I should try and apply this year? or is it better to wait for my green card (which may take 3 more years) and work on doing more research and more extracurriculars?

Thanks in advance 🙂

You have a competitive GPA and your extracurriculars are fine. If you are able to get a good score on your MCAT (512+), you should have no issue applying MD.

I think if all depends on your MCAT, my application was extremely competitive all around except for my MCAT, so I ended up going DO. They really weight the MCAT heavily so your argument is theoretical until you have the score.
