Hi everyone!

I am new here and I would like to hear some opinions about this.
I graduated from high school in 08, and right now I'm taking a lot of classes while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. I am going to be a junior in the fall of 09.
I took a practice DAT test from Kaplan and I didn’t study at all before that.
My scores were:

Biology: 16
General Chemistry: 18
Organic Chemistry: 16
Reading: 13 🙁
Quantitative Reasoning: 18
Perciptual Ability: 19
GPA: 4.0 both science and total

I'm planning on studying and preparing for the test so I can take it in June of 09.

Do you think that I should wait and apply during my senior year, or apply during my junior year (09)?

In your case, it all depends on how you will do on the DAT in June. I mean if you do very well and score above 20s across the board, i don't see why you should not apply but wait for one year. Again, it all depends on how you do on the DAT.
Plus, you have any shadowing experience yet?

so if i'm reading this correctly you are a sophomore now? dude, you are way ahead of the game. you have plenty of time to take your DATs between now and when you apply junior year (june 2010). why would you take a year off when you are a whole year away from applying? you really don't have to take the DATs until the summer after your junior year. but if you want to have the opportunity to retake and have plenty of time to study again, this summer wouldn't be bad as long as you've had a decent science background in undergrad so far. you really have a lot of time, so keep your GPA up, and just start getting your stuff together junior year. good luck!

Why are you pre-medical? What school are you attending if you don't mind me asking?

kaplan's diagnostic test are total bs. i got lower scores on kaplan tests. (like 13s) and i got 20s in each section of the DATs. but i'll wait and take it later just because you'll have more opportunity to take higher bio courses, biochem etc. to help you with studying the dats. gl

Well, 16AA, 4.0GPA...
I believe you didn't take it very seriously or didn't study much...
Otherwise your GPA & DAT scores do not correlate...
From my experience w/ interviews, schools looking for correlation between these two numbers...
of course the better DAT scores, the better but as long as they correlate schools are ok w/ that...
Just bring it up to 19AA...
w/ your gpa, you have very good shot...
Good Luck...

yeah, I didn't study at all. I started studying seriously for the DAT this week, so hopefully in three months I'll take the exam.

right now. for the spring 09, I attending Houston community college. For the fall of 09, I going to be a junior attending University of Texas at m.D. Anderson ( I all ready got accepted)

I'm not too sure about what exactly I want be, a doctor or a dentist, but I know for sure that I want to be one of them.
I going to take the DAT and MCAT and then see how they go.

you should do some job shadowing now to figure out what career path is right for you

I have been working really hard, I took 13 hours over the summer of 08, 21 hours of fall 08, 18 hours of spring 09, and 8 hours from AP.

I just didn't want to waist my time on these basics since I already good at most of them plus I want to graduate early😀

yeah, thats what I going to do. I'll do shadowing now, and during the summer I'll be doing internship/research.

so, after the summer I going to decide, but for now its better just to prepare for both.

For 2008 there were 5 enrollees, 2 at Baylor and 3 at UTDB, 2 of which completed 61-90 credit hours while the remaining had 91 or more. You can be sure, however, that they did well on the DAT (20/+), were mature for their underage status, and were not ambivalent about what career they wished to pursue.
