I graduate in May. My original plan has been to take orgo and physics in the Fall and Spring (2013-14) then apply in summer 2014 to hopefully enter 2015. But, I had a thought of taking Orgo and physics straight through summer 2013 and applying this coming June. However, I would not have orgo 2 before the mcat. Even so, assuming I did well enough to apply DO, I wouldn't have MCAT scores released until Sept-Oct assuming I could take the Aug-Sep MCATs. Would this put me too late in the game? If I make As in orgo and phys I could come out with about 3.4 sGPA and around the same or little higher cGPA. I would apply to Campbell, West Virginia, Georgia campus PCOM, and Virginia Carolinas campus. Anyones thoughts? Would I be wasting money? Too rushed? Help!!

I should add I have about 30 hrs hospital volunteering, research experience involving childrens memory, about to shadow a DO, relay for life, 2 years as a community government treasurer on my campus, and quality exposure to dr patient relationships and how drs collaborate together.

There may be a few things wrong here. Are you confident in doing well on the MCAT in Aug-Sept at the same time as doing an accelerated physics and organic chem courses in the summer?

Also, I could be wrong about this, but they may not consider your primary apps until you have the grades in for both physics and organic chem, since those are two very important pre-reqs.

If you did complete all this (successfully), you will have your primary completed by sept-oct, which can be considered late by some.

gpa?

No need to rush. Assuming you'll ace both OChem and Physics during the summer may not be safe.

So you dont have Orgo 1 or Physics 2 yet? If not I'd definitely wait. It's not hard to get As in both if them, it's just that you would have to rush and self teach a lot of material for the MCAT. Also your GPA is on the low end.

Sorry, lol. Right now my cGPA is 3.33 and sGPA is about a 3.1?

If I were you I would take the MCAT in April and see what your score is before you apply. If you submit AACOMAS with a 3.4 (I don't think your sGPA will raise that high from 3 science classes) and end up getting a weak MCAT score you will have wasted a bunch of money.

Without Organic or Physics?

Thanks everyone. I'll probably just try orgo or physics over summer, and if I seem to do well go with it. If not, drop the course and no harm no foul. I surely won't do anything if I don't feel great about it. Just didn't know how sending an application in June, still waiting for orgo/physics scores AND MCAT would look, knowing I had to wait until anywhere from Aug-Oct to have official results. As somebody mentioned above, do they accept primaries if I'm still planning to take orgo and physics (1 & 2!)? Or submit sometime in July after completing orgo and physics 1?

Orgo 1/physics 1 in the fall. Physics 2 in the spring. April is towards the end of the year so you'll only be missing a few concepts from Physics 2. Not hard to learn them on your own.

OP planned on not having Orgo 2 completed anyway.

No man. She is talking about this June.

Yes they accept primaries with pending courses. There is no reason to delay your submission if you're set on applying in a particular cycle.

Right. I would only apply if I felt ok with it. I wouldn't have a problem waiting until 2014 to apply, only could strengthen my application.

Oh. I always get confused with the timing of this bs. I missed the part about June 2013 in the OP.

OP what are you currently enrolled in?

I'm in bio classes, but no prereqs. That's why I was saying my sGPA would increase from about a 3.0 after this semester. Original plan was to take orgo1/phys 1 in fall 2013 and part 2 for each in spring 2014, apply june 2014 for admission in fall 2015. But because I am extremely impatient and would like to get the ball rolling, I wanted to see if it was feasible to take both 1 and 2 of orgo & physics straight through summer school, take the MCAT in aug/september (obviously dependent on whether or not I could get through that and not have to drop). Submit primary THIS june, and just submit grades/MCAT as they come. But I know the earlier the better is always the rule, so I don't know if it is even worth it to bust my butt and not even have all of my scores in until october at the latest.

I would suggest taking Orgo and Physics in the summer, concentrating on nothing else. Take the second part of those in Fall and then take the MCAT in April, apply June 2014.

Oh I see. Take organic1/physics 1 this spring, organic 2/physics 2 in the fall, study and take the MCAT next spring, apply in June if score is good enough.
