I am applying to Dental School this coming cycle and was wondering if it would be smart to hedge my bets and apply to an MPH program also? My undergrad major was Health Science and my ultimate goal is to be come a dentist, however I was always interested in getting an MPH. I am confident that I can get accepted to an MPH program. Is this a good idea, or would the time be spent better on concentrating on getting in the next cycle?

Well, that's my plan. Epidemiology is super interesting to me. I'm married, have two kids, ready to get on with my life. I'm applying to both.

Are you saying you would use your performance in the MPH program to help admission to ds? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard quite a few times a MPH doesn't help with admission to dental school, being that they want to see how you can handle upper level biology courses. A masters in biology would be a good idea over an mph if dentistry is the ultimate goal.

I definitely think that an MPH would help with dental school admission because public health people bring a different perspective to dentistry. If an MPH is so not helpful, why would some schools create a dual DDS/MPH degree and why would they be adding public health classes to the dental school curriculum?
