I recently shadowed my PCP (D.O.) for a week and he was kind enough to allow me to shadow him again next week, which I will do. I'm thinking of asking him for an LOR. Is it appropriate to ask for a letter of rec. after two weeks of shadowing? By the end of next week, I'll have shadowed him for 61 hours. The 13.5 hours in my MDapps is only because I shadowed him very little last week, if anyone's curious.

Do you feel that he will be able to talk extensively about your motivations to become a physician as well as your most admirable qualities? IMO, LORs from docs you shadow don't really add much to your application. I mean, all you do is follow them around. However, if you're planning on applying DO, a DO LOR is necessary .

Are you applying DO? If so absolutely get a letter. Many DO schools require a letter from a DO!

Yes, I am going to be applying to D.O. schools when the time comes. Possibly some allopathic schools, too.

1: I think so, yes.
2: I am planning on applying D.O. and possibly M.D. as well.
