Hey all,

Im a 3.9 sgpa biology major and I would say that I am pretty decent in the sciences, but lately these practice exams and dat destroyer/math destroyer have been really discouraging...

Ive just finished reviewing my gchem and ochem. Ive done datbootcamp genchem tests 1 & 2 for the first time and I've gotten very low scores of 17 & 13, respectively. For dat destroyer genchem, I can barely even figure out how to approach some problems without peeking at the solutions first...

So what I'm trying to ask is if anyone else started out with really low scores even after they felt they were done with the "reviewing" phase of their studies, but ended up fine?

Im just really discouraged right now. I finished my reviewing phase with some confidence cause I was getting 80-100% on all of chads video quizzes, but destroyer and datbootcamp have done a good job of crushing it all. lol

any advice or better studying tips would be great.

Hello there,

Destroyer is a practice tool after your review phase. It not determine your actual scores on the DAT. DAT is much more representative to the test. Do Bootcamp after you have done reviewing the materials and practicing with DAT Destroyer.
When is your test date? and how long does you plan to study for this test?

Thanks for your reply. I still have about a month left. Im taking my exam near the ending of July. I plan to study for about 6-8 hours a day. But it takes me so long to go through even a single dat destroyer test. Doing one dat destroyer test and then going over all of my mistakes/understanding what I did wrong takes up the bulk of my studies. Not to mention I still have to do other subject tests. Im just hoping it will get better with time...

You will get better with time! We have similar GPA's and started off both trying to regrasp some information so I understand where you're coming from. I went from 18's on my practice test and now I'm up to the 22 range. Your GPA is great though, so that's some pressure off right? I suggest investing in chads videos and using those for OC, GC, and QR to relearn forgotten material and strengthen what you already know well. At the same time and leading up to the test, use destroyer daily. Don't look for scores but work through the problems understanding why everything is correct and understanding what the incorrect answers mean. Invest in Bootcamp for practice timed tests (these tests are the only time I time myself) and take those in the two weeks leading up to the exam. Destroyer has all of the science and QR you need, just be sure to understand why things are working.

You've got this!

Im in the same situation as you lol, i thought i had it down, but when i took the first biology test on BC got 16 MEH. I go back and reviewed the materials again using cliff and examcrackers for 2 days instead looking at the BC solutions because I dont to waste a practice test, I retook the test and scored 23.
You got this,

Thanks so much everyone. Its just so crushing when you think you have all the concepts down and then get smashed down by destroyer and bootcamp, haha.

Like everyone suggested, I think I will stop using bootcamp until the week or two weeks before my exam to get my timing etc. But still continue using it for the PAT generators.

I guess I will just have to plow through destroyer with hopes of getting better. lol

Also, a side question. I know its recommended to do all of the math destroyer tests but is there a minimum amount that should be good? Like doing tests 1-7 at least or some other range? I ask this because I feel like I need to spend more time in other more weaker areas...

I did tests 1-7 and the last two because those have more statistics. From what I read, tests 10-13ish were ridiculously hard so I didn't even touch those. If I have time I will go back and do them. That looks like a good plan. I haven't taken my DAT yet but thats what I did and I feel pretty good.
