I am a junior who will be applying in summer of 2013. My current GPA is a 3.7 for both science and overall.
here we go:

PAT 18
QR 18
Bio 18
RC 17
Gen Chem 20
Ochem 21
TS 19
AA 19

My goal is to get into USC or NYU as an out of state students but I am open to other schools as well.

I think you have a shot. Maybe the RC might hurt you a little bit. Good luck.

I think you have a shot. Just apply to a wide range of schools. I have a 3.73 and 18 and got accepted to UMDNJ, Temple, BU, and Tufts. Do you have a good amount of community service? I had 400+ hours and I think that helped me the most.

sadly, I only have shadowing hours
I am planning on doing some volunteer work this winter break though...

Congrats on the acceptances!.

In no way should you be upset about your DAT scores. A 19 is average, as long as you have a decent GPA (3.5+) you will be just fine. And for the record, a 17 on your RC will be fine.

I think it honestly depends all on you. Do you strive for perfection? Did you study for an entire summer, expecting a perfect score only to get a 19? Do you think you can do better?

I studied like an animal, Kaplan Course, every aid that someone used on SDN, and I got a 21. If I had gotten a 19AA, I would have retaken. Not because I wouldnt have thought a 19 was good, but I would have thought that I could do better with how I prepared.

Therefore, be proud of your 19 AA but you are the only one who knows your abilities and how you prepared, so its up to you how you should feel.

You can definitely make it in with those scores and your GPA as long as your application looks good in other areas. Make sure you work on the observation hours, leadership positions, etc.

Thanks! Definitely work on increasing the volunteering hours before you apply 🙂

Looking at the 17 in RC as a whole, it didn't hold me back. There are other parts of the application though, so perhaps it was my other strengths that overshadowed it.

You'll def land some interviews, I had a similar gpa with 19/20/21 DAT, applied broadly (15 schools) landed 8 interviews, 5 acceptances, 2 of which were my top schools, plus an ivy interview next month. Good luck!

I agree with the post above. I had 19 aa aswell and got a 18 in bio. But 19 in RC and 17 in QR. I still got an interview at NYU pre-december. Got waitlisted but i know its just because of my GPA of 3.1 so if your gpa is higher and you have taken lots of upper level sciences and will continue to take upper level sciences then you have a good chance. However i applied early (4th batch) so take that into consideration.

Today I received an invite to detroit and louisville. I have a 16 in RC. I landed 11 invites already

i see you really like expensive schools haha..but you shouldnt be upset, i had 3.73 gpa with 15 pat, 17 QR, 22 Bio, 20 RC, 18 Gen chem, 19 Ochem with TS = AA=19 and i got into NYU (with $20k/year scholarship) + 2 other schools. (I paid to retake the DAT but once all my interviews came in I nvr went to retake it; so i wasted $360.. DONT DO THAT)

Appreciate all the responses. I will probably spend the time to work on leadership positions and volunteering and go ahead and apply with my current scores. If I don't hear anything, then I will prep for a retake and apply the following cycle.

thanks.
