Do dental schools look negatively on our application if we call to check up on our status a few times after we've been interviewed??

If it has been a long time since the interview, perhaps one call is okay...but I wouldn't call multiple times. Send an email, it is easier for them and for you as well. You avoid the risk of saying something lame or revealing how desperate you are for any shread of information. Plus, if you didn't thank them already for your interview, this is also an opportunity to do that as well.
