Hey guys, I have 4 weeks left, my test is on June 2nd and I need some advice. I have finished both destroyer and chads videos. I almost done with organic chem odyssey. However I just took a topscore test and got a 17 🙁. I thought I would at least get a 21. Should I stop using the organic chem odyssey book? I feel it contains more than I need to know. Should I use my organic chem ACS book instead along with a continous review of destroyer, chads, and the ADA sample tests?

hey yankeefan, i've heard the same thing. odyssey was written by romano to fully explain ochem, its beyond the scope of the DAT. I've heard of good things bout the ACS book and everything else you mentioned. I did topscore as well and didnt do as well as I wanted. Make sure you know the basics as well as the super hard stuff. I felt that most of my mistakes were in the basics (SN1, SN2, diastereomers) with some mistakes in the harder concepts (aldol condensation) plus make sure you understand the lab techniques which are tricky.

Odyssey is a good resource if you are taking orgo class and struggling... But it goes well beyond whats required for the DAT.

My point is, dat destroyer WILL get you a respectable score on orgo without odyssey. Im sure you've noticed this, but Odyssey is like DAT destroyer X 100 (harder & more problems).... If you have that kind of time to plow through Odyssey and the other (equally important) sections of the DAT, then by all means, knock yourself out.

all the best

Same here Wired, some of mistakes were from me not reading the question right. I gotta learn to slow myself down and not getting excited realizing I know how to do it. I also got a few carbohydrate questions in top score which I havent even touched yet =/.

yankee im the same way, my first topscore exam i rushed the science section and finished it like 20 mins early, only to get a crappy score and make major mistakes on the gc and oc sections lol like my professor says its not a race, take your time if you rush your bound to make mistakes. just like when you stop at a stop sign, if you dont check both ways your bound for an accident. lol

I agree. The DAT Destroyer is good enough. I got 2 C's in Ochem, forgot all about it, and a year later, I used only the DAT Destroyer section to get a 22. I was going to invest in the Odyssey, but after seeing it first hand from a friend, I decided against it. Way way way way way to much info. The DAT Ochem is simplistic.

I also feel like the Odyssey focuses too much on rare situation or strange concepts. In a way it makes you second guess everything you've learned so far. Therefore, you practice well for the hard material that makes up little of the exam.

I found the first four chapters useful but now I'm stopping. It's just not useful for the DAT.

i am using odyssey and i'd say if you use it, use it right. it really helps with stuff like sn1/sn2, aldol condensation, and etc. basically the first 10 chapters. im taking my dat in 2 weeks and i if i do do well in the orgo section ill let you in on my strategy in my breakdown.

Hey,
Does anyone ususally share their crack DAT-PAT and split the cost....since its unlimited?!

thanks
