Stats:

3.2 undergrad sGPA and 3.2 regular GPA, 4.0 SMP GPA (took both year one and year two med student classes alongside them)
493---->506 (127/125/127/127) MCAT, this is at their lowest 10th percentile on the MSAR (screenshot of Texas A&Ms MCAT percentile)
272807

300 hrs shadowing, 75 heart surgeries watched
1000 hrs scribing
300-400 various non-clinical volunteering
No research
Master's degree in microbiology and immunology.

Is it worth my time to even write the 3, 3500 character secondary essays or should I just focus on other lower tier MDs and DOs?

I’m late here but gonna throw my 2 cents in anyway. I interviewed there last cycle super early (like the end of July) with a lower undergrad sGPA and SMP GPA, equal MCAT (504/505/507) as you, but one of my LOR was from an alum who still had close ties to the med school. I’m also a TAMU undergrad alum. So it’s not impossible to get an interview with lower stats. Idk if you already decided against applying or not but good luck either way!

will you let us know how it goes? I'm in a similar situation but lower ugpa, 3.9 post bacc and 516 mcat. waiting till next cycle to apply to get some more shadowing & volunteering hours. Good luck, REALLY hope you get in haha

Yeah still haven't heard anything back. With your MCAT though you should definitely be competitive, apply everywhere in TX. I currently have 2 acceptances out of the 3 interviews I've been at so far and have another 2 interviews in January. So I think you'll do just fine haha don't be worried.

weeeeeeeell maybe if my ugpa wasnt a 2.6 hahaha. The 3.9 post bacc gpa barely pulled my cgpa to a 2.8 -.- with 35 hours... but yeah the mcat helps.
but hey thats great!!! If you dont mind me asking, where are those acceptances? if you dont wanna say no worries, or dm me if you wanna keep it discrete. congratulations though!!

2 DO schools in the south thus far Auburn and William Carey, the two upcoming interviews being a TX DO school and an interview at Tulane MD where I did my SMP. Thanks!! Best of luck to you my uGPA was ~3.1-3.2ish, they really do look at grad GPA separately though.
