Dear SDN community,
I am looking for I guess some advice or (encouragement) haha
I applied to about 8 dental schools and sent off supplemental fees to about 6 (due to financial reasons)
I received interviews at 5 thus far (Uconn, Upenn, BostonU, UPitt, and UMDNJ). My question is that I am wondering if I should send off my supplemental fee to Columbia. Here is my dilemma. It is so late in the cycle (even though they have all of my information are just waiting on my fee) and my DAT is a little lower than the average. Still, it is one of my dream schools and though my DAT (while it exceeds other schools and is the average for many) it is still a few points lower than Columbia's. I initially got discouraged because of this but since I have been racking up interviews, I'm thinking I may actually have a chance of scoring one there (It's been my dream since literally high school). I wanted to send off the fee earlier but this is the first time I have had a little extra money, enough to finally send it off. I wasn't even expecting interviews from the other schools I applied to but it seems as if the fact that I maintained a high GPA, worked 2 jobs, ran cross country for my school, swam for my school, held executive positions in my social fraternity and several other clubs on campus, compensates for the DAT score (which is still pretty good). Please keep in mind that this is a hard decision because I am not a person who typically has enough funds to even go out to a bar, so though the 75 isn't much, to me, it's a nice bit I could finally use to enjoy (go out to eat, go see a movie or two, etc.). My grandmother (the love of my life haha) suggests that I do it and have no regrets. They even emailed me today reminding me that they have all of my materials and are just waiting on my fee to consider me. Please guys, I need some advice. haha I have friends and professors rooting for me to apply while some are sold with one of the schools I have interviewed at already or have coming up. Any suggestions, opinions, personal stories to share would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
A very distraught/broke aspiring dentist 😕
