Should I flunk this exam on purpose?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Get off SDN... go study.

Sounds like you should study for physics, and then bomb orgo... then don't procrastinate the make up exam.

Isn't that just pushing the problem back? If you're taking a really hard make-up at the end of the year along with finals, isn't that a worse situation?

I would bomb the organic and go for physics, if you're guaranteed the makeup and know you can take on it then. Problem with organic is that it builds on itself, so don't be surprised if you bomb the one after this.

OR... Pull a hail mary, get off SDN, grab a cup of coffee, and study both like there's no tomorrow. I guarantee you if your dedicated enough you can still grab an A on both.

i'd do physics but there's really no excuse for being unprepared. it's not as if professors neglect to give out schedules at the beginning of the semester.

Should I flunk this orgo exam and take the replacement exam? I don't have time to study for both physics and orgo? I know I shouldn't have procrastinated, but this full load is really starting to wear me down.

Is this real life?

So, I have an orgo exam AND a physics exam tomorrow, and I am not prepared for either. My orgo professor allows the students who flunked one exam to do a replacement exam at the end of the semester but it's supposed to be really hard.

Deej, now is the time to plan for the Future. Physics is indefinitely more important than Orgo for your future. I am not going to tell you why right now, but listen to me on this one. Study and master Physics.

There will be a test in the future where physics will make up 50-75% of one section of it. Conversely the orgo will only be a few questions or a little paragraph with questions ~10% of your section score.

GO PYSICS or go Home.

This sounds like good advice. I can't attest to its validity, but whenever anyone throws numbers around, I assume they know what they're talking about... are you talking about the MCAT?😕 I thought Orgo was it's own section.

It's a slightly different situation from yours, but, I took Orgo II over the Summer. During our last week, we had two exams; a midterm, and a cumulative final. If our final was higher than our lowest test score, the final would count for two grades. I was also studying for the MCAT, so I was pretty stressed at the time. I decided to blow off the midterm. It was a risky move, but I had put in a lot of effort into prepping for the final. Long story short, I rocked the final, and ended up with an A in the class.

If you know you can rock the orgo tests, it might not be a bad idea to concentrate more on physics. Again, this is a risky move. YMMV. Best of luck to you!

Except for the fact that after that little test, you will hardly ever see physics again, except for a select few concepts....and mastering the organic concepts will help you infinitely more. Try and think a little more long term. There is more than just the MCAT.

Unfortunately you are in a sucky situation. Take the F on the organic test, but don't just wait to learn that material. Go to the professor and work with them and be very humble. You have to learn the stuff. If you wait until the end of the semester to look at the material again, you are just delaying the inevitable. Use this extra time as a tool, and actually LEARN the information instead of just memorizing. It will serve you well in the long run.

That is a horrible mindset to have; never assume someone knows what they are talking about just because they can quote a number. Remember that 94.264% of all statistics quoted on the internet are made up on the spot.....

I vote to focus first on the physics and then turn to the organic if you have time and are comfortable with the physics material. Then, when you see the organic test and it looks completely impossible, flunk it on purpose however you want. Or maybe, you'll recognize enough to still rock it. Either way, immediately hit the books and learn the material because organic really builds on previous material and you will struggle later! Good luck!:luck:

"All science is either physics or stamp collecting" Earnest Rutherford.
So go for physics. On other hand some professors may only give B or lower , to be fair to other students, if such concessions are made; so check out. I personally don't think such students should get an A.

OP, Grow up a bit. If you would have studied for this properly you wouldn't be having this problem. You know what to do, take the orgo redo and ace it. Count your lucky stars that you have that as an opportunity as the grand majority of us didn't. Many of us have had to study for multiple exams on the same day.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I decided to focus on physics and take the orgo replacement exam.

Is this the first time you're going to study for either tests? I mean, I think I'm smarter than the average student and I can't even pull off good grades with just one day of studying, let alone it being the day before the test.

That a boy/girl...you will be happy you made this choice when the topics you studied last night come up on a much more important test you are yet to take, and the orgo you didn't study doesn't. Ugrad is preparation for a single 5 hour computerized test, gear your focus towards it and master it.

Are you an idiot?

👎. This is bad advice. I know the MCAT is down playing orgo but that is not a licence to slack.

Have you been, like, HIRED by the MCAT company or something? You're intense. You got a 45 didn't you? Or a 46 for all your marketing?

Sound like a lack of motivation to me...I guess if you are really this unprepared it may be better to study hard for physics and flunk o chem.

I hope this is a joke. You are going to have an even more hellacious schedule in medical school and it is NOT an option to fail any of the exams.
