I took an upper division science class with this professor and got an A. However, her office hours were during my work hours and she never knew me on a personal basis. But then I T.A.'ed for one of her lower division science classes the following quarter. Obviously, as a T.A. I got to know her and she'd be able to talk about me and my work in much more depth.

So if she writes me a rec, it would include all the T.A. stuff. Since this is the only class I have T.A.ed, it would be the only letter in this topic. However, I doubt she'd be able to say anything about me in her earlier class except my grade, could that hurt the letter?

(And also T.A. is not going to be my most significant leadership - i.e. not the huge cornerstone of my application. However, I may or may not get a letter in my significant leadership because 1. I can talk and write about it endlessly myself and 2. the letter writer wouldn't be a professor or anybody with a degree. )

It's fine. She can quote statistics about the class and also comment on your dedication as a TA.

I thought just citing class statistics was a bad idea?

She won't be only citing class statistics - she will also be talking about her experience with you as a TA. This second part is probably more important - the class statistics part will just serve to give a broader picture of you (eg, this kid did well in my class so I let him be a TA - and then she talks about you as a TA.)

I think this LOR should be fine.

If the only things someone you worked under for a semester can say about you are class statistics, your problems are bigger than this one rec. It'll be fine.
