i took the DAT the other day and here are my scores:

AA:15
PAT:15
QR:17
RC: 16
Bio:16
GC:13
OC: 15
TS:15

GPA is about a 3.0 for both science and my overall.

should i start crying now, knowing that i will be declined from ever single place i have applied to, or is there still hope? what are your thoughts?

Okay, first things first. You're not lost nor screwed by any means. Take a couple of days off, party a bit and put things into perspective. I would advise taking the DAT a second time. I knows its an ugly gorilla to dance with, but to hedge your chances of gaining acceptance I would try to increase those scores. It's not too late to reschedule the exam (heck, I know a guy that retook it at the end of January and is now in dental school this year). As Taco said, apply to a few, select schools and get your application in if you haven't already done so. Have faith in your abilities, work hard, and you'll realize your goal. Best of luck! 👍

DONT GIVE UP BUDDY! You made it this far, completed all the requirements, just go for it! :luck: :luck: :luck:

You probably just fudged the first time because of some serious nerve-ature. Pressure, the whole stress of the cycle, the whole overwhelming test...I'm sure you'll get it next time. Go ahead and pay your money to retake the exam, let the schools know you plan to retake, and then when your 90 days are up ADA will send you a letter letting you reschedule. Don't wait the 90 days to then pay and reregister...takes longer, but DO wait the 90 days before you retake. Maybe find a different way to study, focus on what you DON'T know and practice with timing. You've come all this way..."hit 'em with your best shot!" Show the adcomm you're just as deserving as anyone else

Wishing ya the best,

Beach

definitely don't give up! maybe get a private tutor to help you with the chemistry. practise more pat examples and ask ppl you know for some tips and tricks..develop a better strategy for reading comprehension by practicing with articles from scientific journals..and omit nothing in bio! pretend like everything you read will be a test question..good luck!

how much did u prepare? did u put in the 8 or so weeks and 200+ hours necessary to score 20 or higher?..at least that's what it took for me and what i've noticed from other peoples' posts..and if u did then do more! it's not out of reach by any means..if u want it badly enough you will do well

I agree with MitchSE-R. It takes 200+ hours of study to do well on the DAT. I studied for 200+ hours and did okay (and if a dummy like me can do it surely you can). 🙂 👍 Hit the books and you'll do just fine.

We're behind you big guy! Do what Sprgrover said and take a couple of days to unwind and relax. Get your mind off of the exam and just literally take a step back from the whole scene. No matter what happens, you'll get in if you really want to!
Good luck,
Greg :luck:

Just curious, how did you study? Did you use any aids like Kaplan book or Topscore? Atleast one aid is absolutely necessary. YOur GPA is sufficient. Just study hard and take the DAT over and apply again next year. Don't psyche yourself out.

Just wondering....
are you applying for the 2005 cycle or the 2006 one?
....I still don't think you should give up...

Your in piss poor shape bud! you gpa is okay, your DAt needs work! etc, etc, etc.

But what you haven't told us is what type person you are when you scrape away the numbers.

In order for us to help you, you gotta give us a little info. what type of extracurriculars, research, volunteer experience, etc?

what schools did you apply too?

It's time to realistically evaluate where you stand. At this rate, your looking at possibly 2-3 schools in the US.

Look at your DAT as a stepping stone for your next DAT. You know what to expect, so attack your weak areas and honestly put in the hard work. I wish I could find the passage that someone wrote on this thread before. It was really good illustration of what determination and hard work can do.

In the end, if getting into Dental school was easy, then its just easy, whats the fun in that.

Some info about me behind the numbers:

I graduated a couple years ago, and started work full time in a research lab right after graduating, so having time to study for DAT is tough for me. I also want to enjoy my spare time over the weekends since that is the only time I have for myself.

Did some volunteering in a clinic for a while. Am applying for 2005 to schools on the east coast, had some family health situations occur over the last 2 years and so of course, that is the first thing on my mind.

oops, forgot to mention that I did use Kaplan's study aid. Also got TopScore CD as a gift, but that dumb thing expired before i could use it. 😡

any publications out of your work you done in the lab.

how many hours of shadowing are we talkin about.

The lab work can be very tough, and its understandable that the weekends are you're only free time. But still, in order to convince adcoms that your serious about d-school you're gonna have to give up your weekends to study for the DAT.

have you considered Kaplan course?

HD

no publications; have put in roughly 100 hours of volunteering/shadowing.

yes, i have considered Kaplan on-line, but can not afford that right now. i am not exactly making big bucks with the job i am in now.
