Well, since I've been on SDN I've seen a lot of good advice given, so here goes... Will it be harder as a DO to become a Dermatologist (do they prefer MDs over DOs?) or easier (is there a separate DO residency for Dermatology?)
Thank you for your input!!!!

I would not choose DO or MD based on this issue. It is difficult to get a residency either way. There are some DO only derm residencies, but there are many DOs trying to get the few spots available.so competition is intense just as it is for allopathic applicants to their own residencies.Pick the type of program that suits your overall interests and worry about this later. You never know untill you are in med school what you really want to end up doing.

Well if you have the option and are really set on nothing else but Derm, get into a good MD school. Going into a DO school (although it is possible) makes it harder to get a Derm residency. However, if you like medicine in general and like the DO philosophy go to a good DO school that has great specialty residency matches. (PCOM-Philly, CCOM, MSUCOM, OSU, DMU)

Overall getting an MD (in the states) will let you have more specialty residency options.

Good Luck.
