I received an interview invitation for an alternative position at UCLA via email last week. I believed the chance is very low to get in, but should I still try?

Why not you never know, and if worst you'll probably get waitlisted. A seat might open up w/ your name on it🙂.

I'm sorry to tell you that nothing is mentioned in the email. It just stated that the interview is for ALTERNATE position and does not guarantee a seat in the class.
