I volunteered in a hospital my high school senior summer, senior year, and the summer after I graduated highschool. I included this in my AMCAS and my personal statement because this experience was my first experience working directly with patients and helped me choose the path to medicine. I did not choose this activity as one of my most meaningful.

After reading some threads that you shouldn't include activities before high school graduation, I'm worried because this activity is right on the borderline.

UC Davis secondary requires that I talk about 3 important experiences that lead me to become a doctor. Should I choose this activity to write about?

I literally just said this somewhere else:

Life does not begin at high school graduation. It is possible to do interesting and meaningful things prior to high school graduation.

Not mentioning high school stuff is a general rule of thumb that can be ignored if the situation calls for it. In general more recent activities are better, but a high school activity is definitely better than nothing, and it is (in some cases) better than the alternative idea that you might want to talk about.

Thanks for the responses!

I feel that my hospital volunteering during high school made me want to choose to become a doctor, as this was my first exposure to medicine. Alternatively, I can talk about my current job (2 months) as a medical assistant. This job allowed me to gain more insight to what doctors do in their private practice and solidified my resolve to become a doctor.

Would my more current activity be more appropriate to talk about in my secondary?
