I'm applying this cycle and I've noticed that all my secondaries ask if I done anything new. I also feel like this question will come up in interviews. So now I'm considering becoming a biochem tutor this upcoming fall to fill this potential hole. I already do a variety of ECs (research, clinical volunteering, middle school mentoring, and ultimate frisbee) and it has my schedule packed.

Is getting new experiences during the application cycle important enough to try to fit tutoring into my schedule? Or can I feel safe just continuing my already established activities?

Seeing as your schedule is already packed and you have a good set of ECs so far, I would spare myself the undo stress of packing an unnecessary tutoring position in there. I trust you have enjoyed and learned from your experiences so far enough to hold a good conversation with someone and talk all about how you have grown since your involvement.
