I got it during the spring of my freshman year 'cause I skipped my senior year of high school. Does it count? Should I bother?

Are you asking if med schools care that you were a national merit scholar?

Don't list finalist as an honor, but if you got a college scholarship out of the deal, you can list that.

Yeah, I did get a scholarship out of it. Should I list that?

If I remember correctly, the AMCAS has a place for honors/awards/etc. Since there is a maximum number you can list, decide if you have better awards to tell the schools about. If you have space, though, it can't hurt to list the national merit scholarship. It shows that you have consistently been a high academic achiever.

No, high school does not impress medical school admissions committees. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY IN THE BIG LEAGUES?

This is true, that recent stuff is much more important. It seems that med schools couldn't care less about high school, but I read on one of these threads that some schools are now requesting SAT/ACT??

Due to my high school grades and test scores, I got a big scholarship at my undergraduate college, which I could only keep over the years by maintaining a good GPA. I listed it on my AMCAS and it was mentioned during a few of my interviews (then again, I did go to a pretty well-known school). So I still say, if you have room on the app, you can list the scholarship but NOT the "finalist" title. If the committees couldn't care less about it, they'll just glance over it.
