I recently finished a round of applying to medical school and didn’t get in. I am considering applying to post-bacc programs but am unsure if I should retake some prerequisite courses I didn’t do so well in. I got a C in Gen Chem II and C’s in Ochem I & II but I did very well in all of my biology and physics classes. I’ve been reading that post-bacc programs don’t advise you to retake these courses but instead focus on other upper division science courses to boost your GPA.

Also I‘ve read some conflicting things regarding undergrad GPA vs. Post-bacc gpa saying that they’re separate. Is the post-bacc GPA considered a ‘graduate’ GPA?

1. post-bacc is undergraduate gpa if you enroll as an undergraduate student at the institution
it's grad gpa if you enroll as a graduate student at the institution..

but it'll be clear to MD/DO schools that it is a post-bacc and separate from your first 4 years, regardless of the 'undergrad' vs. 'grad' designation.

it's just a question of whether it is factored into your ugpa or an entirely new graduate gpa. you would be wise to confirm that you are an undergraduate student in the eyes of your university who is just taking additional undergraduate courses toward another undergraduate degree/certificate but perhaps might not finish that degree.

2. what's more impressive, an A/A- on the second attempt of the material, or an A/A- in an upper-division course of the same subject on first pass?
