Hi Everyone (please be warned, this email is a little lengthy)

I just received my CDN DAT scores:

Bio: 21
Chm: 19
Reading Comprehension: 19
PAT: 18
Science Avg: 20
Academic Avg: 20

I'm not sure whether I should retake the exam or not. Below is some info on my academic background.

A few years ago AADSAS changed their policy about Psychology courses and stated that ANY courses given by the psy department became part of your nonscience GPA. This changed was implemented during my last year of university. I graduated with a bachelors of science (honours) with a specialization in psychology and minor in physiology. 80% of the psych courses I took were neurobiology and cognition courses and two of my psych courses were statistics. Regardless all my psych courses are now part of my non science gpa which sucks *** because I did really well in them and because of this my sgpa is really shot.

My gpa now is:

sgpa: 3.05
bcp: 3.29
nonscience gpa: 3.66
overall gpa: 3.40

I'm currently in the process of upgrading my gpa by completing prerequisites and taking some elective sciences courses. I'm hoping to pull up my grades to (the gpa's are calculated using the highest possible grades I think I can achieve in some hard core sci classes i.e. physics, org chem II:

sgpa: 3.21
bcp: 3.42

My top choices are NYU, Boston & Temple.

Please let me know what your thoughts are about retaking and if you think my gpa would be competitive for these Universities. I also have some really good extra curriculars and over 300 hours of shadowing and working in both pedo and gp offices.

Thank you!

Well I think your scores are ok except for a low PAT score. I don't think you'd need to retake the test though... Your GPA is what's going to hurt you the most. Bring that up and you'll be fine. Good luck...

You'll be fine, you don't have any scores that are "low". Some schools place a little more emphasis on the PAT but an 18 doesn't scream retake. If you're still worried about getting in somewhere just apply to a few more schools, but I wouldn't stress over that. Nice job!

Bring up your gpa and apply early. Good luck!
