Hey you guys,
I really need help in deciding whether to use this EM doc's letter. I do not want to mention the name but he's pretty big in the ultrasound world. Anyway, in the standardized letter, the global assessment I received was excellent (top 10%). He added comments such as me "working exceptionally hard learning ultrasound skills" "very helpful in training students" "great sense of humor, easy to get along with". Here's the kicker: when asked my chance of residing on his match list: he just put "possible match" instead of competitive or very competitive. He is at a prestigious allopathic program (no DOs have ever trained there) while I am a osteopathic applicant. Any feedback????? I am really torn. Big name with good but not great eval or small name with excellent eval? Thanks ahead of time.

I think you might have answered your own question. Sounds like you really did an excellent job, but if this program discriminates against DOs, then maybe a "possible" is a really good mark for a DO. I would think the eval is still sendable.

Yeah, I think the comment is probably actually very good given that they haven't taken DOs in the past. I would send it.

Thanks for the prompt reply you two. I will go ahead and use that letter. Wish me luck! :luck:

Agree. I know when I was reviewing applications last year for our program, the narrative meant a bit more to me than any other "checked box." The narrative was either hand written or tyuped, whereas the boxes can be checked "willy-nilly."

Know what I mean?
