Friends,

I have question about recommendations. I am taking MCAT in August and still going to apply. Now I was shadowing one Physician for month or so and She is ready with her recommendation. I was wondering should I send the recommendations to the schools now or hold those letters with Physician. Or should I keep it ?

Thanks for help.

have you submitted your application to ACCOMAS? If so, I would recommend having her send the letter. Make sure you call the schools in advance to let them know the letter will be coming.

Oops....AACOMAS. How could I get that wrong 😱

Actually I haven't submitted application yet. But will be submitting by mid of august. Is it still fine ?

Have the doctor make a abunch of copies. One for each school and some extras in case they want another one or if you add more schools. Give her envelopes that you have already filled out each medical school's address that you area applying to and put a stamp on each one.

Now she can put a recommendation in each envelope and seal it for later. OH, very important....Have her write across the back of the envelope a sentence that says that you have not seen the recommendation and then have her sign across the seal.

Now as you hear from the schools, you can call her and ask her to mail them whenever you get a request for them.

However if you have a pre-med advisor or an advisor that you know well, they can handle the mailings for you. At my school, even though I had graduated a few years ago, my pre-med advisor handled sending in my packet which contained all my LORs on my school's recommendation form. That way all I did was have my letter writers send them to my advisor who kept up with everything including mailing them when I called him. That is the best approach.

Actually my premed advisor is also combining recommendation letters from three faculties. So he is going to send that combined letter. But I wanted to send this letter separately as some schools require a letter from physician. And when I asked my advisor, he told me that it will be better if physician herself send those letters.

FYI, my friend collected all his letters sealed and signed in the appropriate envelopes and mailed them when the time came. This takes the responsibililty off of your letter writer. Should it matter who mailed the letter? I wouldn't think so.

just some thoughts...
