I was set on applying to MD and DO this cycle, with gpa 3.82 sgpa 3.89 scoring a 30 (10/8/12) on the May 31, 2014 MCAT, but after having significant troubles crafting my essays I was unable to get my apps finished up by July as planned.. I realize that with a score of 30, earlier is better in the eyes of MD schools.
Currently 1 year post-graduation I have been working full-time as a medical scribe and have multiple health-related EC's. I am deeply considering waiting another year to gain several more experiences (possibly research since I do not have working research experience, travel, getting involved in another organisation etc..) and enjoy my 20's before diving into my chosen career path.
I am wondering if I should play the odds and try to finish the primary applications in August, or if my MCAT score will significantly lower my chances at this stage in the MD cycle? I would prefer to go MD, but I am not ruling out the idea of going DO..
I am confident that I will be a tremendous physician, but feeling slightly burnt out with working full-time and failing to stay ahead of the application process, which has significantly hindered my creative spirit required for the personal statement..
Any advice is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!
