Should I submit a LOR from a research PHD at the NIH to ERAS?

I am a SMS (MSIV) Getting ready for the upcoming ERAS season and have a strategic question for applying to anesthesiology.

I have an exeptional LOR from a PI at the NIH that I worked with which will certainly prove to be the most definitively supportive letter in my file, but I have heard not to even submit letters from non-clinicians. Any Advice here?

For surgery, I was told it's okay to submit a LOR from someone you only did research with. In my case, that person happened to be an MD, but they couldn't really attest to my clinical skills, as they only knew me from research.

When in doubt, ask your PD how they'll this this letter.

Thanks bud. I appreciate the advice. I've run into a bit of a problem there as both our Dean and the PD refer me to the other instead of committing to an answer....anyone else had a similar situation with a non-MD LOR.
